Lee Brice‘s latest single “Cry” fluidly blends a modern country sound with old-school influences, The heartbroken lyrics and catchy chorus gives way to a surprising “baby, baby, baby” melody, which creates a reverse pre-chorus effect that was intriguing to everyone involved in writing and recording the song. “That kind of threw me when I first heard it,” Brice admits. “It was unique. But it didn’t throw me off as far as whether I like the song or not.” Brice worked with producer Ben Glover and the songwriters Dallas Davidson, Ben Hayslip, and David Garcia, who intentionally crafted a soulful and doo-wop-inspired track that defies traditional country conventions. Curb officially released “Cry” as a single on January 31, after Brice said he “started hearing demos coming in where more people are doing this kind of vibe. I don’t want to be following it. I want this to come out first.” (Billboard)
